Airport Turnaround Coordinator

The Airport Agent has the task of planning, coordinating, and supervising all the assistance activities foreseen during the turnaround of an aircraft from the moment of his arrival to the moment of departure to ensure that they take place in full compliance with safety, and security
and according to the expected timescales.

Job Responsibilities

  • Receives the instructions for loading/unloading the aircraft to be assisted and, taking to the stand, ensures the presence of resources (men, vehicles, and equipment), in compliance with the established standards and procedures in force.
  • Coordinates the optimization of the assigned work units and controls all assistance operations ensuring compliance with operating standards.
  • Carries out a thorough check of the assigned stand right before the aircraft arrives at the stand, in order to verify that the conditions of the stand are such as to allow operations to be carried out.

In particular, it verifies that:

  • There is no debris inside the pitch and eventually removes it (FOD check).
  • There is no presence of contamination by oils, hydrocarbons, snow, ice etc. In case there is, ask the Manager for the intervention of cleaning equipment and, if necessary, request the change of the stand from Apron Management.
  • There are no vehicles or equipment within the area delimited by the red safety line of the pitch (ERA). In the event, notify the Manager so that the vehicles and equipment within the ERA are immediately removed.

Once the aircraft is completely blocked and after the anti-collision lights have been switched off, carry out an external inspection of the aircraft (arrival safety walkaround check) to verify that there is no damage (scratches, dents, etc.) that may have been caused before or during the flight itself (e.g. effects due to a bird strike).
At the end of the walkaround check, or after having carried out a visual inspection of the part of the aircraft affected by the operation, he will be able to allow the service vehicles to approach the aircraft.

  • Maintain contact with the crew until the actual exit from the aircraft parking area.
  • Check the positioning of the Loading Bridge (performed by OPS / TLR)
  • Directly handles relations with company personnel, highlighting all operational problems and intervening directly in the solution; it also requests, if necessary, a new load plan, in compliance with the procedures in force, having communicated via radio the actual data of the last load.
  • Deliver the actual load plan to the captain of the aircraft, receive a signed copy of it, and store it, in compliance with the predefined operating standards and procedures in force.
  • At the end of the passenger and baggage boarding operations, and in any case before the start of the pushing operations, performs a visual inspection of the aircraft (pre- departure walkaround check) to ensure the correct closure of the holds and cabin doors, the absence of anomalies on the aircraft fuselage (damage and spillage), the removal of all ramp equipment and means;
  • Verifies the absence of FODs inside the pitch and obstacles to push-back operations.
  • At the end of the pushback, the FOD check must be repeated to make the stand immediately usable for the next flight.
  • Releases the flight to Apron Management.
  • Assists the flight crew, through the headset operator connection with the aircraft,
  • during all pushback and/or towing phases, including the “engine start-up” proceed with subsequent release of the aircraft for taxing.
  • At the end of the operations, communicates the block-off to the center and once he
  • returns to the office, he completes the flight report correctly and comprehensively, on which any anomalies and/or irregularities that have occurred during transit must be noted
  • Then attach the flight report to the flight documentation (operational messaging, flight plans, preloading, security checklist, bingo cards, technical log, passenger lists in departure, load sheet) to the flight file.
  • In the airports where provided, in the absence, or alternatively, of the Industrial aircraft
  • Team Leader, the Ramp Agent equipped with appropriate training, assists the aircraft in the phases of entry to the stand by guiding the crew, as aircraft marshaller, to the point provided for parking on the pitch using the appropriate ICAO (marshaling hand signals)
